![]() Seems updates are becoming less backward compatible now.
Some of the new updates due for Windows 7 could actually mess up XP and are on hold at present. |

![]() It's about time Microsoft got their backsides in gear - they've made enough money out of all this.
KB980182 messed up IE8 on Windows 7 good & proper on this machine - nothing else I've come across has managed to ruffle W7's feathers at all. |

![]() Sorry was referring to the fault in general.
Wish I could replicate the problem on our site but cannot. The site at present isn't "fully" IE8 working at times. |

![]() Some folk have reported the first auto-install of 980182 messed up IE8 - just like mine did. They uninstalled & tried again a day or two later and it went in with no problems. Maybe MS have altered it in the interim - who knows?

![]() As what it does is not really relevant to Windows 7 / IE8 (see post 8) I don't see why it should be flagged for auto download.
Strange one. |

![]() I don't know John.
![]() All there is to go on is what the MS info tells you - this is what's sitting in the 'new updates' notification: ![]() The 'more info' link leads to this page - which says it's critical for all IE versions including 8: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms10-018.mspx |

![]() Best advice from professionals is don't use IE. Given the choice FF is a much better piece of kit.
I have no experience of IE but when sorting out a compromised machine for a friend running 7 a few days ago I was advised to install FF and tell my friend not to use IE. I did not go further with questions as the chap is a consummate professional and I will always take his advice on Windows, Unix, Linux etc. As he takes mine regarding Mac issues. |

![]() Good point GG. I used to use FF on XP but haven't tried it on W7.
To be fair to MS, they do have a good integrated (& free) antivirus prog for W7 - http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/. It works properly and it doesn't slow everything down like 3rd party progs do. PS. I just managed to get five initialisms* in one post ![]() * Or are they acronyms? To hell with it - who cares anyway. |
