The same as Ron, I think most members whom do there own oil change/service, will have one of these, ignition to II connect the reset tool press INSP 4.5 seconds, then OIL for 6 seconds. sometimes you may have to disconnect the tool and re-connect then do the OIL holding as I say for about 6 seconds.

Anyone else with this type of tool please add how you do it so others can learn I myself use our T4 to reset the service, at the same time clear all faults that may have occurred do to bulbs being changed etc

Mine does too on 2000, 2003 and 2005 cars. No difference according to possible none-OBD-II compliance on the earlier cars at all.

So these 'BMW' tools don't have programmed timing? They don't have a processor of any sort? I always assumed you simply pressed the button for whichever reset you needed and it did it all for you. The original BMW resetter did that.

Ahh! I have one and have never been able to get it to work. Wonder if your instructions will sort it for me. Thanks!

OK, I've got one that does all of 'em. It's called an 'EZee-OBD' and was bought in 2011. Problem is that I can't find it on eBay anymore! If your's is a SINGLE button thing like mine, it MAY however work the same way, so ...

With that one you have to insert into socket, ignition to pos. 2, and then press the button for a fairly precise number of seconds .
Oil Service: 2 secs.
Inspection: 15 secs.
Clock only: 15 secs.
Oil Service & Clock: 2 secs and then a 15 sec session don't remove key in between.
Inspection with Clock: 15 secs and then again 15 sec session don't remove key in between.
Oil Service and Inspection: 15 secs.
Oil, Inspection and clock: 15 secs and then a 15 sec session don't remove key in between.

V8 (Clock display non-existent, but the rest): 15 secs.

Hope that may help!

David

I bought a used version of that from a member long ago. I found it wouldn't work when it arrived, the fault I traced to a dud capacitor. Once replaced it worked fine, but mine is a CDTi MkII. So it might be worth checking inside the case for a swollen/ leaking cap..

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

I have a Service/oil reset tool which I bought for the facelift 75 we had for a short while at the start of the year. The rest tool doesn't work on the mk1 75 - does anyone know where to buy a cheap one from please?

Many thanks in anticipation of your kind help/guidance.

Neill

Neill I have several of the service resetters, Easy made some of the first ones. A modified paper clip mounted in a plastic carrier now a plug buttons and lights. I have used these successfully on many Rovers. My own 75 tourer however does not like them. I have had to use the laptop to reset this car.
My tourer I found to be a strange beast, when I went to tune it up to the popular 160 Bhp, I found that my car was 100% BMW complete with write protection software. This car I have never been able to reset with the service reset tool. It may just be coincidence that it is BMW Brained but I suspect that there is a connection. Can we have some input those from those who understand these things better than me. I can usually get around any software, but can honestly say I can get a workaround but am not confident that I am only working around just my problem. Please can we have some input from T4 experts. Who understand the whole thing. Not those like me who just manage to get around problems as they come up by trial and error.

I used to have one of these before I started using the BMW software. I seem to remember it said in some cases you had to do an oil reset before an inspection reset or vice versa
