In addition to my main AV - Avast, I use malwarebytes anti-malware. It is free and helps me removing various infections which were not alarmed by Avast. Opencandy can be remved by hand too: http://soft2secure.com/knowledgebase/www_getwindowinfo

Best advice I ever had was to have an Admin account with full administrative rights in addition to my user account with standard rights. I almost never need to logon to the Admin account as 99% of PC maintenance including software installs can be done in the standard account if I enter the admin password. But it stops viruses from installing themselves. For added protection I use the free Microsoft antivirus to mop up anything that gets onto the machine knowing it can't do harm if I don't touch it.
