My V6 190 does about 25 booting it, 28 all round, 32 on a run. Brim to brim calculation. Dave

My wife's 2.0 V6 manual does 28-32 mpg. Perhaps your calculation is not accurate because you are using small sample sizes. Try a full tank brim to brim.

Tom,

That's the reason you're getting such a low figure. As Synchromesh and Dave Goody say, the only accurate way is using the brim-to-brim method on as close as you can get to a full tank. Do that first.

Simon.

I agree. If the fuel consumption is still rubbish, get the VIS motors checked out second.

The computer wouldn't offer an advantage. They have a 'correction factor' which needs to be decided and stored. Need I say more? Stick with the old fashioned brim-to-brim: it's reliable!

I did a brim to brim check just after getting my 2.5 Auto and got a result of 29 mpg and that's with non functioning VIS motors and the rattling intake.

Have since fitted a non rattling intake but have not gotten working VIS motors as yet.

I did notice that upping the tyre pressures a couple of pounds to 32 PSI made a difference.

Hi, seems a bit heavy for 'careful' driving.....

I have the same 2.0 litre sedan and on long journeys with a mix of Motorway, A-Road & B-Road, eg. Southampton to Weymouth, driving normally within limits I get 37-39 mpg. Around town doing the usual trip to town, down the shops etc. 4-8 miles I get between 26-29 mpg. And I've been getting this since I got the car just over 2 years ago.

NB. Mentioning tyre pressures, I put 2.5 front & 2.4 rear. That's bar.

Cheers.

Totally agree, you can expect a drop of between 5-8 MPG with duff VIS motors, especially a failed Balance.

With a fully functional pair I've managed 34 MPG on a run, with a brim test.
