Gives credence to the age old argument of don't argue with things bigger than you, you WILL loose!

And more importantly, don't jump level crossing lights! (well, any red lights for that matter)

yep dead weight (oh... what a pun)

I suppose a little poetic license was used, after all a driver would usually be able to spot an obstruction on the track and apply the brakes before hitting, but... and this is a big but... I would imagine being hit by something that big would be pretty much terminal no matter what speed.
I have nearly seen something like that happen on a crossing we used years ago on one of our daily trips to work.

A car had stalled on the crossing, and the driver had got out to phone ahead using the emergency phone, and was taking to the operator when the train appeared, the operator was able to signal the driver, and he stopped in time, but we often thought about what would have happened if the phone had been vandalised (it has happened before) we had even offered to push the car off the crossing when the bells went.

gosh... bells... shows how long ago that was

No, I don't think so. If the car isn't stationary, because the driver wants to outrun the train, the train driver will have no chance to reduce the speed at all.

In that case yes, obviously nothing could be done, but i was referring really to the way they staged the incident. the vehicle was clearly stationary on the track (same as somebody stalled/broke down)
