Sorry to hear about your illness. Especially because you are self employed. I have just had one of my self employed clients ring me this morning to cancel his Income Protection policy. Took me the better part of a hour to persuade him to keep it going. "£21.99 a month is too much money" was his grumble. Hey ho.

I hope you get better soon mate. I'm 30 years self employed and I know what its like.

I have income protection.... but it doesn't kick in till I have been unable to work for 30 days.. Seems pointless to claim for 2 days only at the end

Best wishes to you. My Mother had her first TIA some 20 years ago, and has only had 2 since. To put this in perspective, she was 77, and is now approaching 97, so you may not have another for many years, but I quite understand your concern. In those days, there was no "treatment" - it was just "hope for the best", so try to look on the bright side, and await getting behind the wheel again.

Check the wording of your policy. Some (but only a few) have a waiting period of 30 days but a "back to day 1" clause after that. In other words, wont pay out until you have been signed off sick for 30 days but then back date your claim to your first day off work. Long shot but worth a look. PM me if you get stuck.

I rang the company this morning and checked.

Sorry to hear of your TIA. The fact that you have had 1 I believe reduces the odds of you having another (presumable because of the treatment involved)! Haven't had one of those but re your insurance premiums: I had a heart attack and notified DVLA. They said provided I didn't drive for one month there were not interested as it did not affect my driving licence. My insurers said the same in effect and it did not affect my premiums. So it might not be as bad you think! Good luck.
