Did you know Mr Columbus sailed from Madeira in the Santa Maria to the Americas on his third trip. We did see the Santa Maria sailing from Funchal....but it was going at a rate of knots and not a sail in sight!
If you have not visited Madeira and get the chance to, DO IT, a superb island . P.

Was thinking about that for later this year Podge, flew over it on the way back from Canaries. Is it a place to unwind on nightlife driven? Where did you fly from?

P.SWe flew from Gatwick by G.B Airways ( B.A. franchise), they cease flying there at the end of this month and then EasyJet pick up the slots.Madeira is a fabulous island for unwinding/walking....Lavardas/mountains, the flowers are everwhere at all times.Winter down to 18c and Summer24c, as for nightlife, its not another Ibiza (thankfully) and you won't find chewing gum on the pavements/graffiti/vandalism and the folk are polite and very proud (rightfully) of their island. I will post some photos on the photo site( no not of me on the beach!).Cheers.P.
P.S. Fred is ready for his next outing so I will post him on when someone is ready to pick up the mantle......or we can look after him untill his next "Guardians" are ready, he is quite happy by the fireside!!
