As a 2001 car it may also have the older 3sp fan. It's just a low speed fault by the sounds of it.
I would advise getting in touch with someone from the forum too, avoid taking it to a garage as they won't know their ear hole from their bum hole when it comes to these cars. |

Thanks for this advice.. it seems the diagnosis seems unanimous ... i will perform these tests over the weekend to see if it is the resistor. So if I press demist and the fan comes on, what will that mean? I will give a full report of my findings and then hopefully someone in Kent from the forum can help put htis right.... The mobile chap sounds good, is he is Kent?
I know she needs a few other things putting right before the journey too!! Will post pics too of her on either Saturday or Sunday. i know that every time she stands idle at the traffic lights or stops or a moment the fan comes on, so lets hope this is straight forward. |

When you do the demist test ensure that the climate control is in "econ" mode.

I'm puzzled by your post. The 'demist' function will override the previous mode, whether it be 'Auto' or 'Econ', so it doesn't matter which is selected. Lets try to keep this simple for the OP. All she needs to do is start the engine and press 'demist' to carry out the test. Simon

I'll look out over the weekend for your feedback on the fan resistor and the demist test. Simon

Fan problem continued
Good evening... Right, I have pressed the demist button and the fan remains on as usual... I tried looking through the grille but i can't see anything as there is a filter type (gauzy thing).... Fan is still ongoing when idle and when at low speeds.... though still no overheating. didn't know if that had anything to do with the petrol smell inside the car?? I know I mentioned it before, but you never know.
Also I have emailed Sean (thank you for the rec) I am awaiting his response now. Any more ideas welcome... I am generally happy with the car as she runs beautifully , though as all older cars, she needs smaller things doing to her which I know about... just this fan and petrol smell trouble me. |

The smell of petrol could be due to a broken breather pipe under the engine cover. These are available relatively easily and are a cheap fix. Rik.
