Thanks for the links Edd. The general discussion on the other thread discusses 'popping' out the locating nut. Mine doesn't seem to want to move even with a bit of leverage with a small flat blade screwdriver so I am reluctant to force it to much as the whole body is plastic and given what it is and where I don't know if a squirt of WD40 would be o.k?

Cheers,

I checked, and adjusted mine at work.

The black plate 'locks' in some way. Could not remove mine either. But with a short firm pull it came out. If yours is really stuck, a squirt of WD40 could do the trick I think.

I find it comes out easily if you rock it . One finger and thumb in front of the nut, and one finger and thumb behind then gently pull up whilst rocking it up and down
WD40 will lubricate the thing with no harmful effects .

Just a quick update, I have (eventually!) managed to remove the the black adjuster/locator nut on my 75. For reference the reason it was being so 'obstinate' was that the square nut has a pair of small moulded 'pimples' at the bottom that 'click' in to place to hold the nut in the frame. My 75 is a 2001 so it may be that this design/feature was absent on later models, which makes the nut somewhat easier to remove?

Never mind the pimples, have you managed to move it much and has it made a difference for you?

Gave it two full rotations, which currently leaves it about 20/25mm from the end. It's off to have it's new Jules supplied Kenlowe fitted in the morning and I will see if/what difference that has made. Now that I know what the mechanism that's holding it in is I will be a bit more 'adventurous' if I don't notice any great changes and report back.

p.s. Layoff the pimples on my nut, it's glandular

Yes Ceb. Following Telferstr's advice on another thread I managed to dislodge the clip but only after a little quirt of WD40. The clip is quite sturdy and whilst it is obvious what needs to be done to remove the slack in the cable, I was a bit nervous about applying too much brute force in case I broke something.

Haven't been able to drive the car yet (two others in the way) but there was definitely quite a bit of slack there to be taken up, so I hope for an improvement. I did start her but as she hadn't warmed up I think it was ticking over a bit too fast for that reason and nothing to do with my careful adjustment....!

Just done this adjustment last weekend for the first time in 10+ years of ownership of my VVC engined coupe and what a difference to throttle response!

There was enough slack in the cable to be able to tie a bow in it
