I'm not quite there yet (mental breakdown that is) well jsut done 220 miles in her and ful economy was good, just nudged the half way mark on the gauge so happy with that, before I set off got the guys at quick fit to put it on the ramp and the noise is the flexi pipe on its way out, my bodged repair has held fast, if fact I think is good enough to leave on. need to replace the thinner pipe though as it has snapped into 3 pieces so had to leave the acoustic cover off as its very short now the cable that is. As an aside there are a lot of mg's outside the travel lodge, wonder if they are here for the same reason I am. Apologies if my exhaust disturbed your sleep.

I am about to put my manifold back on, and the above mentioned T piece on the breather pipes is broken, so I was going to rig a repair.

If the engine will run fine with the pipes vented to the atmosphere and the inlet opening blanked off, will that cause problems at the MOT?

I could just lengthen the pipes so that they run down the bulkhead and end underneath to prevent fumes entering the cabin.

Yes I know it sounds a bit silly, but I was thinking that it would prevent all that oily gunge passing through the inlet manifold.

Ed,

I'm sorry but I have to challenge you on that statement. Crankcase breather pipes were sealed into the intake system before the EU was invented!

Our engines will run quite happerly if pipes are removed and throttle body opening is blanked off with the crankcase open to atmosphere via the black pipework NO DAMAGE WILL OCCUR.
Anyone who does that is an irresponsible bodger. Damage may not be caused to the engine, but what about the environment? I'm sorry Ed but you should not advise people to run their engines in a state which emits combustion products and oil fumes into the atmosphere.

If the breather pipes fail they should be replaced. £20 is hardly a lot of money compared with a tank of fuel, insurance, road tax or a set of flashy alloys.

Simon.

I shall consider myself chastened and repair the pipes.

Default Oil Breather

I bought the landy one, and they fit perfectly, and as you say are much cheaper.
