I've had loads of cars with high miles at sub 1k prices -so i have over 20 yrs experience of bangernomics- so i can compare .Admittedly none were as high spec or advanced as Rover 2.5
Bit of a culture shock when my biggest single outlay on parts prior to Rovers was £80 on my Citroen AX GT .This actually was most expensive car i purchased and mileage was low - but it wasn't very good either. Most of work for 75 2.5 was done at my brother's garage.Thermostat housing, new Lamda sensor and all service parts cost me £350.I believe this a rather awkward job and involves dismantling half the engine.

Quality control doesn't mean every object is examined, it's usually done on a percentage basis as the inspector simply doesn't have time for anything else. On small components that could be as low as .001 percent..
Even the "good" products can vary between near top limit to bordering bottom limit, but both would pass inspection... With the thousands of bits used on each car, the possible variations are infinite innit.. Bit like the Triumph Stag, if yours got passed 30,000 miles it was a goodun, and would probably get to 100,000.. But not many got to 30,000 miles without seriously overheating. ... *the car should have been fitted with the tried and tested 3.5 V8 from day one*..... ... 75 or ZTs are no better and certainly no worse than any other car, Mine is not that much different from our X type 2.2 as regards cost to run but the 75 has it hands down for a more pleasant place to be as regards driver comfort and pleasant surroundings. As said by others these cars are getting on a bit now but there's no reason why with looking after they can't run for years more. I don't think mine is too much different to when it left the factory mechanically but the thousands spent on it to please me and only me with all the extras and gizmos is what makes these special.

The Hi Line sat nav would have cost £2300 as an option. As this is a Cowley built 75 it must have been built before May 2000 and if it was not registered until about a year later, maybe it was sat in a field somewhere, adding to the problems you have been suffering. This 75 looks blue in the picture, just wondering if its Arden Green. Dave T |

Politics between Triumph and Rover management, at that time. "We won't use that Buick engine that Rover use". Let's weld a couple of Dolomite engines together. lol
