don't think a prob with using XP Student only real issue is if using dodgy copies then you cannot register as the disc lines up with the original computer's setup and the only other prob is you'll be stuck with SP1 as it won't allow you to have SP2,but bear in mind a lot of people me included have never bothered to lob SP2 in the machine as it appears to me it's only advantage is to give you IE7 but then again you could always use firefox and have decent anti virus without the need to upgrade. |

If you use discs Genuine or otherwise you will require a Licence number to activate if it has been used before on a different machine you will be stuffed, also if you ever change the motherboard you cannot reload windows as this is classified as a new Computer. If you are building your own computer, get a OEM version as you can call yourself a system builder and save a fortune on Retail. DO NOT USE COPY DISCS.
This spec machine was never designed for XP let alone VISTA stick to ME until you can afford to upgrade or change. |

I know this may sound a tad bizarre, but there is a school of thinking in the IT security world that a machine with an old, secure OS on it becomes steadily harder to break in, as the skills/knowledge become rarer.
There's a sort of twisted logic to the idea, and it does pan out too. So my advice is to stay with WinMe. |
