It was serious but, in your case, it would obviously be a waste of time. And I'm sure the same is true of many other people; I'm not quite that blinkered.

It cannot be considered as serious for the reasons I've pointed out above.

I've seen that figure in the press too. I have to say I find it difficult to believe. I think we're certainly going to see a drastic reduction in the popularity of the diesel motor in the next 12 months.

I'm using a lot more fuel as are my engineers and other staff as they are not using Planes as much in UK to get around,
as it is cheaper to drive now the company reckon most of the time.
Even though you loose a lot of work time.

Put in the context of their turnover, oil companies actually make very little profit. OPEC are sticking prices up and the government is taxing heavily to get money to fire missiles at camels so there's very little that can be done by boycotting any petrol stations.
Have you seen the cost of public transport these days? Don't know what its like elsewhere but in Soton it is not cheap and they keep going up (and not by 2p a time either!!) I don't use public transport but the rest of my family do (and I pay for it!!)

Yep, I have the immense displeasure of using it almost every day and racking up huge bills. It's still a little cheaper than using the car and much more so once you factor in having to pay for parking.

As above, the situation in London is a little different from everywhere else, so my view is skewed.

From an employee viewpoint business mileage allowance differs enormously from having to fund private motoring - which includes getting to/fro work. For instance on top of a monthly Car Allowance (several hundred quid) I also get 40p per mile for company business mileage. I keep a log and reckon that my CDT fuel costs are about 10p per mile so the result is the more business miles I drive the cheaper my overall personal motoring is. Bizarre!
OK so there's mileage depreciation but by driving my inexpensive & economical CDT with hardly any running costs I am better off than my colleagues who all seem to drive £20K cars and moan like hell about them!
