Yup, tbh that's an issue I'm not bothered about, and I'm also pretty sure you can change the drive letters anyway - well, you could on XP! ;-)

Yes, you can

I should be asking your supplier what they are going to do about re-installing your OS if they haven't provided anything.

I think he may have a hidden Rescue Drive.

Yes. Probably right. I assumed not because Dave didn't mention it. Not the ideal solution though Lose the HDD and you've lost the lot.

In addition, and this is probably just me being pernickety, but how do these suppliers justify taking up part of the HDD space their customer pays for as a means of saving a few pence on producing a recovery DVD?

Rip-off Britain at its best again

When I supply a PC, the customer gets a recovery image disk plus the OEM OS disk and any driver disks associated with the hardware installed. That is to say, everything he PAID for.

Looking at the handbook, it would seem that I do have a hidden rescue drive. As said above, not a lot of use if the HDD expires... And, also as said, shouldn't I be entitled to the discs rather than wasting drive space?!

The first thing you should do with any new branded PC/laptop is burn a backup DVD. Most will have a program that needs to be run to do this. Ideally the manufacturer should do this, but no doubt it is done this way to save the pennies!!!
