Hey, where did this thread come from?!?!

Great idea!

(Having said that, shouldn't the first option be "I love it" not just "I like it"??)

True, very, very true.....

Nothing worse than spending money on what you hope will be the ultimate Black Pudding and finding out it's pants. We recently bought three different types from the local Farmer's Market (well I did, Gill hates it)

One was too rusky, another had a good flavour but must have had some weird ingredient as it left a horrible aftertaste, and the third literally tasted of rubber - had to bin this one

Supermarket BP tends to be the "Euro" pudding, mainly rusk as if somehow it's appealing to a vegetarian market?

The best, IMHO, is full of nice big chunks of white fat! The one I remember the most was from the butchers that were local when I was only about 4. This was George Udall's, in Coseley, West Midlands (Staffs then?). A good old fashioned place, with half pigs hanging up and sawdust on the floor. Sadly, the place has been gone for years (we don't live there any more but family do)

Been trying to find a replacement for years, but constantly struggling. Maybe that's because it doesn't exist in the real world like it does in my memory?

Best ones in recent years have been from butchers in Knaresborough and Newark

If anyone has any recommendations, please let me know!

I love black pudding, but not the generic supermarket stuff. There is a guy in the indoor market at Bridgnorth who makes a slat 'tray' type, fantastic flavour. Its not limited to these islands though - I was once on a trip to Estonia and went to a local restaurant with my hosts. They suggested that I try their national dish, but said that if I didn't like it they would get me something else - turned out to be BP served with chips and some pickled veg - loved it. They call it Verivorst - blood sausage.

I love the stuff, but not raw. I'm the only one in the house that likes it, all the more for me. That's even after, as a teenager, making it. After collecting the pig's blood in a pail, the best job was up to your elbow in it, slowly stirring round and round until all the fibrin collected on your arm. Then you flung it off to clean the arm before doing it all again. And it was still warm. That's enough for now, unless anyone wants any more? Just trying to help.

I looooooooooove Black Pudding, but it has to be the proper stuff, not this dry yakky supermarket drivel.
