The big V8 was really a specialist car, selling under 900 examples. You will be lucky to average 20 MPG. A great weekend play thing, but not an every day car!! The diesel will average 40mpg. Great for high mileage drivers. Not really an ideal town car, because just like the big V8 the entire engine is made of cast iron. Takes an age to warm up. Expect under 30mpg on the school run, and a lot less during the coldest winter weeks if it doesnt have a FBH. The 2.5 V6 was the best seller. Modern all alloy V6 will warm up with in a mile. Ideal alrounder that should average 30mpg. Great if you are not raking up 30K+ miles per year. And the engine note and performance will garantee a smile on your face.

Thanks again for the replies. Unlike most people my age, I know how to save. So I've got quite a lot in the bank. I start my job in September 21k a year , but I get paid over the summer and receive a golden hello for my first year. Take that into account and it is more like 26k. So money isn't a issue. I intend to rent a house for a couple of years (approx 500 a month) even so , I will be fairly comfortable.
My heart is saying the V6, although if I find the diesel is acceptable to drive and the noise acceptable I may go for that. Condition wise , i'm looking for something that is more or less mint. |

Cosford could be a good idea. I was planning on going to Longbridge on Saturday, but the weather is looking a little iffy.

Why don't you come to our national meet at RAF Cosford this Sunday there will be many people there that can advise you.
EDIT: You beat me to it! There will be over 100 cars coming and the weather looks good! |

Although I would still recommend the V6 because it is such a good allrounder. You only live once - Follow your heart - I always do.
