Very carefully pull and twist them upwards Jim with a large bladed flat screwdriver. Got a pic somewhere but can't find it

Ahh, looking through my list of bits that I ordered, it seems that I did order a pack of the EKM100270 fir tree clips. I ordered them for the sill trim, but ordered too many just in case!

Arghhhhhh! I can't get the two metal clips in the middle to release. I've resorted to the haynes method of poking then with a big screw driver, but nothing is working.
Edit. Never mind! I wasn't pulling up enough. Easy once you know how! Last edited by simdel1; 9th April 2011 at 13:09.. |

Both upper & lower tabs on the clips have to be squeezed simultaneously.
We use long nosed pliers for this

Yup, long noise pliers did the trick for me too.
It was really worthwhile getting this done. Seems that when all the door cards were removed previously, the fir tree clips were not replaced. In fact, there were still there in the door pushing the door card away. No wonder it kept popping away at the top. The doors have never sounded so solid! |

Give the door card a thump upwards at the bottom to release it from the door and then I found using a pair of water pump pliers to sqeeze the spring tabs in worked best to get the square plastic clips off. To help make sure the top metal clips hold better they will move along the door a bit if knocked from the side with a screwdriver and mallet it will make them locate in a new place and give a better grip. After doing all the the stupid door is still making a squeeking noise GRRRR!! But at least the door card is solid and not hanging off.

Just wanted to say Thanks for this Colin_NI. I have just refitted the Tourer Passenger door card with one from the Saloon. This How To made it easier, my First fitting of a Door Card, so was a little awkward, but got the knack now

After dissassembling all 4 of mine, repairing broken bits with fibreglass, fiiting 2 missing (in the bottom of the doors) lock pins and replacing loads of clips (including the FIR TREE ones) I have a couple of observations to make.
The clip in the below picture in on backwards, the "flat" side is to face the door card, the other side goes towards the door and the metal clips, it "funnels" the metal door clips into the plastic clips. Also, they won't fit that way at all in the rear doors. Also, don't worry about getting the door cards lined up at the top in the metal clips when replacing the cards, just hold in place, whack the two main plastic clips home, then all the clips around the edge, lastly the "fir tree" clip and the top just clicks into place. I'm now an expert after taking them off 2-3 times each... The only tool I ended up needing was an electrical screwdriver Thanks to the OP for the 1st rate info Last edited by Unclefista; 2nd November 2011 at 18:38.. |

Well done. I took the passenger side door card off to wash it (sandstone), came up a treat BUT the top would never go back in position and stay there. I'll give it a go again tomorrow following your advice to the letter. If it works, the other door cards will be off pronto and in the bath for a scrub.
