Have your got a Harmon Kardon system, as this breaks into the speaker circuit. Although again this would be located in the boot.

Have you checked the head unit for water damage, although this doesn't provide the sound amplification is is the control interface. Do you have a hands free kit that has got damaged and muting the speaker circuit.
