Quote for service with cam belts, also two rear tyres needed for MOT around £1200.

Car is a 2002 ZT 160+ V6 saloon, according to a site I've just checked up on the only one of this model still on the road.

Car has under 48,000 miles, bought new and so only owner.

Difficult choice when car worth £1000 or less.

What would you do? Is car likely to become a classic in a few years? Will values increase?
If you looked for just 2002 ZT+ 160 then there is a chance it may be the only one on the road , but my 2001 ZT+ 160 is definitely still on the road

Tyres well right now Blackcirlces have 195/65 R16' Avon ZV7's for each £42:93 fitted I checked yesterday as my CDT is running on my winter treads for now.

As mentioned check the traders pages here on the forums for a decent price on the cam belt job.

A ZT is unlikely to be running on 16" wheels though, and if it's on 18's those tyres would be at least twice that price... So depending on the tyre the garage are quoting for it could easily be £200 just for the tyres. Still an expensive quote overall though I'd say.

That was an example in the size that I was looking at .......................... that is all. I was surprised to find Avons for that price.

When I needed some Falken 914's in 216/40 R16 for the MGF it was cheape to have them shipped in from Germany than buy in the UK the pair cost £98 delivered. A local tyre place fitted and ballanced them to my requirements for £24.

Keep it...no question... What would you replace it with?? With only 48k on the clock it's not even run in properly, and has a whole lifetime ahead yet. It's worth a lot more than £1000 to you....and what would you replace it with...and how much would you spend on a 'new/newer' car. Much more than £1200 I'd guess... You're 'quids in' keeping it!

Hey Stephen, I think I have found myself in the same boat as you, whether to get belts etc done on my 15 year old ZT190...

I knew this day would come, but not come overnight like it has.

Do I trust a garage and pay their extortionate prices, or even a mobile mechanic, will he be familiar enough with these cars?

The trouble I have is living down here in the darkest depths of sunny Bournemouth, I need a good mechanic member from here that is local or who can travel.
