Yes that's what I reckon too. Wasn't trying to be picky and guessed it was a typo, but it's always worth checking. Daft to say nowt and waste hours....

Mmm. Doesn't sound good. Noises like that are rarely healthy. Hope it turns out to be something reasonable

Thanks Duncan, 1st thing I will do is take off the ancillary belt to eliminate any knocks and rattles from alt, air con, power steering. Costs nothing. Then if that is the cause of the rattles I can look at why it's only running on 5 as it may be salvagable. If the knocking continues I think I will be looking to exchange the engine. I know the car is probably not worth the expense that this is about to incur as its 1999 but I have such an attachment to it

Would love to find a accident write off from a rear shunt or something

Ah well......

Hiya Stocktake. I am really sorry to hear you have probs with your cars engine.

As for cost of repairs, the pleasure we get from our cars is not financially related, only you know what the cars is worth to you. You don't have to justify spending money on it. Life's so short, enjoy it to the full. Tomorrow is promised to no one..

I hope you get it sorted without too much aggrivation. Sadly there seem to be quite a few my local scrapyards, so you may get lucky with finding another engine..

Sorry to hear about your troubles mate.

Have you done a compression test with the guage yet?

Will keep fingers crossed that it's just the plug, but if you need a hand or to pick up another engine the Tourer and trailer give me a shout.

Russ

Morning Dave just read this thread really sorry to hear of your troubles.

If you need to change the engine and need a spare pair of hands mate could spare couple of days and come up to you.

If you do replace the engine and want to change the cam belts don't forget my lock tool is available for you FOC.

All the best mate hope you get it sorted without to much trouble.
