Sorry, I misunderstood your comment about pressure. Yes, simple veg oil films will have lower performance at extreme pressures and nowhere near as effective as mineral lubes formulated with EP additives. However, castor is a widely recognised engine lube as well as a 2-stroke fuel additive. I believe Castrol and Castrol R products are/were based on castor oil (the 'R' is derived from 'Ricinoleic acid' found in castor oil). See:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castrol

Is Castor oil not carcinogenic or toxic or have some other health issues?
Refined Castor Oil is edible and is used in lots of pharmaceuticals e.g. Zinc and castor oil cream for baby's bums. The castor bean itself does contain a toxic material called ricin.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ricin.
(Remember the Russian bloke who was killed with an umberella tipped with a ricin pellet?)

The ricin is easily removed to give edible castor oil. It's used in engine lubes so I wondered if it had ever been tried as a biodiesel type fuel. I've made methyl ricinoleate and the methyl rape oil esters many times in the lab but they weren't intended as fuels. I've worked on jet engine lubes but not diesel lubes/fuels.

Check what you are Putting in David.
Some Morrisons are now offering BIO Diesel but it is marked on Pumps.
