Will brasso or duraglit not leave a white residue on plastics?

no, rub in carefully (the wadding type only, don't use liquid Brasso), allow to dry to a matt finish and buff with a clean soft cloth.... Magic stuff...

I do not use it on the matt plastic (black) parts, just the gloss finish...

I used one of these on my real wood dash, using a very fine grade polishing block. It meant stripping all the parts before fitting but was worth the effort.

I use one of them for headlights with radio rouge dissolved in paraffin..., great final polish

just take a walnut kernal and rub it on the scratch.... polish with a soft cloth and jobs a goodun...

old french polishers trick...
