Nice one Pete.

However as I only do around 45,000 miles a year now, I can comfortably run an old banger like a 75 or ZT, which I've revived from it's deathbed, safe in the knowledge that I can do similar for at least a couple of years into the future.

Make no mistake, rose tinted spectacles abound on this forum, the R40 models were in no way nailed together perfectly at the factory, and the last ones produced are now coming up to 11 years old, and with age comes unreliability.
All very true Brian. When Big Ron was a company car things were so much easier.

And I've given him a stern talking to about reliability; as soon as he starts letting me down a more modern replacement will be on the drive.

Hi.
I certainly wouldn't say any company car is horrid with the exception of a Smart or an IQ (wait for it) An Octavia or even a Fabia big enough for one person to do their daily business in, certainly keeps your 75 or ZT off the salty roads in winter and keeps the mileage down.
Skoda have always been a favourite of mine since the 70's and the current cars are well made and long lived.
With around 50% of Europe's taxi drivers using Skoda they cant be wrong, if they weren't durable then their share of the taxi market would be a lot lower.

So the all aluminium A2 was a no brainer!

And in 2003, the original owner paid 16,000 pounds for a Fiesta sized car with four seats!

That's what you would pay now for a new ford fiesta
