No, the router is just to the outside world.

Next does the target have a static IP address? if not give it one as it makes life easier

Are all your PCs in the same workgroup (again makes life easier) Mshome being the default and on the same subnet?

Identify the targets IP address > from a cmd window type Ipconfig

If you have not set any up enable a shared directory on the C drive > right click > sharing and security > shareing tab.

At the run command type \\www.xxx.yyy.zzz > enter, i.e the targets IP address.

What happens? you should see the local shared directories and printers as attached (from Vista BTW)

If nothing problem is with the target
If ok
go to the machine you want to access the target share
repeat \\www.xxx.yyy.zzz
you should see the same list of shares but may have to authenticate first

All this mention of PC firewalls...I take it you are running XP Pro Service Pack 2, or at least XP Home SP2.

The Home edition can be a "B" to setup, personally I'm more used to XP Pro and servers of various flavours.

I have setup a friends 2 laptops and one PC to be static IP, Wireless and to "Windows Share" a printer, all running XP PRO SP2. Obviously the printer/PC combo has to be switched on!

If you have a wireless Netgear router, then you can trow away all that internet sharing stuff you setup with the Windows wizards.

Set yourself some static IP address, same subnet mask eg 255.255.255.0 and the gateway should be set as the router IP address.

Now setup user accounts on your PCs to be the same, so when they talk to each other for permissions, they think they are talking to themselves...

Login to the PC's using this account.

If you have enabled printer sharing as previously mentioned and disabled XP firewalls, you should start getting more visibilty of shares you have setup.

Open "share" up to as much permissions as you dare. "Security" permissions should then be used to tie down security...that is supposing you want to.

Good Luck

PS
I'm applying for a job in Solihull...
