So on the basis that the circumference of the Earth is under 25,000 miles your car can be driven 6 times around the earth before it gets to the 290k - 8 times before the 340k .... loads of life

you just have to hope that you are passing England at service time.... and take a new MAF with you just in case?

sad day
well, more than a little bit sad - but car has driven off to a good and trusting home (now with another one to keep it company) and I hope that it should be good for another 150k now, with appropriate care.
And it has stayed in the club. I'm officially Roverless... can't even find a suitable smilie... |

not at the moment. I realised that running a first (150k) Tourer before having a baby was different to running a third (150k) Tourer with a toddler around. We are destined for another diesel Berlingo for a while until "car job lists" become enjoyable again in a few years....
Both Messenger and dhammo had very rational, objective (i.e. sensible!) views of owning a car that somehow I can't live up to at the moment. I guess its a glass half full-half empty thing? The annoying thing though is buying a cheap "tide-me-over" until the right car turns up... look where that got me last time I tried to escape |

Hi Pondweed. get a diesel 1.9 Citroen ZX 5 door hatchback, they have normal springs n stuff, and the Peugeot XUD engine in them is about as reliable as engines get.
There are loads of them on eBay, look for the AURA model pre 1994, they are top of the range and ECU free! The "facelift" 1995 has a grill and an ECU! Look for one with a slot not a grill, like this.. My auto ave around 35 mpg but does 50+ on the mways A nice 1994 ish 1.9D or TD is around £600 to buy. the autos are a bit more expensive, but very hard to find If you keep it while you source another car, you wont lose much when you sell it on again. . sound advice. In the same vein as one I've been considering - 74mpg £500 AX diesel. Anyone else got any leftfield suggestions? Got to be "safe" enough for carrying a child on a motorway, if there is such a thing.

Seems 100K miles is low for a diesel these days!
