Well after a good clean of the head there are a few marks. The head is going to be cleaned tomorrow then I'll skim 5 thou off. This was the amount advised by Dreadnaught when fitting an MLS gasket.

If your fittng the MLS gasket you should also fit the modified oil ladder rail with new stretch bolts. Ensure the liners are proud of the block face otherwise the MLS gasket will not work.
Good luck |

My old man is a precision engineer so has all the necessary tools to do the skimming. I'm doing the gasket change in my spare time hence why its taking so long to do.

Got my mate to give the head, cam ladder and cam cover a clean in his Jizer bath.
Upon closer inspection of the head, it will defo be getting skimmed. There are a few marks which are not ideal and I want a really clean surface for the gasket to mate with.

She's alive...
After much hassle with wrong fitting and leaking thermostats and incorrect oil filters I finally got the engine fired up. She fired up first turn of the engine. Sweet as a nut and super smooth. Check for any fluid leaks but none are apparent. I've left the undertray off as I'm going to do another oil and filter change at the weekend and change the fan resistor. Happy, happy, happy doesn't even begin to cover it!

Excellent what exactly did you fit then? How were liner heights? Did you fit uprated oil ladder rail with the MLS gasket? Did you fit new Cam Seals? New head bolts?
I couldn't fit an MLS gasket as my liners were flush and they need to be proud of the block face for the MLS to work. I was also advised that if fitting the MLS then it's strongly recommended to fit the uprated oil ladder rail. Hope your car runs for years now Regards Craig |
