He tried to flog me an SD1 he had there because it's far more viable than my 95 apparantly. It was lovely though and I will have one one day! I'm not scrapping it though. No way. I get very attached to things.

![]() Guys, I'm thinking of doing the whole project myself. Can anyone recommend a cheap MIG welder for a beginner? I've taken some more photos showing the rusty bits, that the restorer said should lead me to kill the car. I spoke to him today again and he is advising me to scrap it. Well I'm not going to scrap Vera, so there!!
250513874322 on ebay, any good? http://www.screwfix.com/prods/79434/...0MIG%20Welder# http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav.js...LAID=266909988

![]() Vera!
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I dont know a great lot about migs but I would steer clear of the no-gas variety, I can't weld to save my life but I know a few people who have had them & have gone on to get gas migs or convert to gas. Regards Col |

I've not welded since I did my apprenticeship but am hoping to have a go and don't see the point in spending £500 onj a welder to only find out I'm rubbish at it and it get consigned to the back of the garage.

![]() To be honest Phil yes there's a couple of nasty bits there but all in all doesn't look desperate to me, I would maybe lift the step mats out & see what's under them but as I've said before most of the panels you'll need are available from JRW not cheap but good quality, it's cheaper to buy everything in one go as he has a tendancy to stick it up you sideways with the carriage but just start with one bit & then move to the next or it'll end up like my P6.
The trouble with the gasless migs is they are very spluttery & dont weld neatly also if you go for a gas one you will get a much better weld using an Argon CO2 mix though CO2 will get you by but the weld tends to be hotter (more chance of burning holes) & also you get a fair bit more spatter Regards Col |
