At that price it would be worth putting a good engine in in my opinion.
Depends what they class as smoke, might be worth chucking a new inlet manifold gasket on it first

That was my thought TBH. For £500 though it's definitely worth a punt. It's just a shame i'm skint at the mo or i'd give it a go myself

Yes, it's definitely possible to get a good one - just bought a 75 Connie Cdti auto, 54 plate with full history, mot, tax till Jan, brand new tyres, new discs & pads and 49,000 miles - and it really is mint - for £2700. A bit more than my £2500 budget but it was definitely worth it.

Such a shame, that green one looks good in the pictures too.

Believe me, there are good ones about. I sold my tourer earlier in the year and it was a belter. I did struggle to get a sale too, probably tarnished by the scrap that is about for more money. I would try and find one from a for member, almost always going to be as described.

Don't lose faith, they are out there. And if they are not, buy a duffer for peanuts and make yourself good one, works for me

Default Mint

The term 'mint' is a subjective one. What the OP is looking for is the Holy Grail and probably for little money. One must be realistic. However...

As some will already know, I've been working on my project ZT-T 190 which is currently at the bodyshop getting any dings etc ironed out. I've spend a considerable bit of money and time on this car and if ever the term 'mint' really applies, then I hope it will be towards this.

Next stop is engine removed since I want to rebuild it (even though it's perfectly fine) and generally degrease and tidy the engine bay to showroom standards. I've already done a bit of work in this area and every bit of metal in the 'bay is polished, including the engine mounts, aircon pipes and the metal sections of the power steering hoses. And even though you can't really see the rocker covers, they're still polished. I'm looking at 'chroming' the manifold. This will be tricky but I believe it is do-able and should assist in providing the wow factor.

It's not the potential value of the car that's pushing me as it's still only going to be worth what someone will eventually pay for it - it's the knowing that it's the best it can be. Well, that's the intend in due course. Mint? Perhaps eventually, but it's never EVER going to be perfect. As I said, one must be realistic as it's still a used (and will be used again) car.

To be honest, the way I buy a 75 or ZT now (hopefully won't need to again, but you never know) is to buy one needing a bit of work - anything but corroded or damaged bodywork is acceptable to me.
I then go about replacing or repairing the items that need attention - I have a car that I know is 100%, and the work is freshly done so should last years.

An example of where you can use this to your advantage is the clutch - if the clutch has failed or feels dicey on an otherwise good car, it means when you've done it the new clutch will likely last many years. You'll be able to get a good bit of discount from the seller, and will have a great car when it's done.

Well the car was £3000 and falling to bits, i dont think that is "little money" and i dont expect the "Holy Grail" of cars either just a good clean honest car. I am also restoring a ZTT 180 Monogram Dark Fantasy which is costing a fortune, brand new black leather seats, Respray (yes respray on a monogram!) new wheels, over £1600 spent on engine alone. Why? Because i think they are great cars and i want a "mint one" which will go with my mint V8 that has only 11000 miles on it which is factory fresh!

Well here in Sweden there is about 12 ZT's for sale in the whole country. The V6 ones is up for 3000£-7000£ and the only V8 for sale is up for 16000£. And these cars are kind of high milage ones too. The prices for a 75/ZT in the UK are so looow! Almost tempted to import a V8 in the future
You guys are lucky!
