Thanks very much for everyone's comments.

I'm away for the next week from tonight so at the moment I'm happy to have it sitting outside the house rather than in a garage. The garage's final piece of advice was "bring your log book with you and I'll scrap it for you"!

When I get back I'll try the MAF sensor myself and then find someone who is able to do the diagnostics. As you say, mh007, I can get the gearbox scanned if necessary.

That garage needs a very wide berth.

So much help on here its unreal and from real experts, people who work on the cars and know them inside out, don't give up on your car - give up on c**p garages.

Was he saying that in gest, you need someone local to you with either a T4 diagnostics, or a compatible fault code reader. Any fault codes generated by the ECU will soon show up, and it will save you a fortune in misdiagnosis bills.

1. Plenum drains..all 3 or 4 year dependent
2. Cooling fan..All speeds functioning
3. Bonnet cable divider block
