Default Time to re-think...

Currently this has been an ad-hoc arrangement and is patently unworkable.

So if you want to make a go of it, let's aim at the date in February 2009 when the first 75 was delivered to the dealers (anyone with an exact date?) The nearest week-end to that will do

To organise properly we need a more structured approach. So first of all we need Regional Coastal Co-ordinators (it is supposed to be a round Britain relay)

Once the Co-ordinators are set up, we will need to organise the legs. This will be done by the Co-ordinators within their regions. Obviously they would need to "talk" to their adjacent Co-ordinators to achieve this.

Once we have a round Britain set of Co-ordinators, then we can move to the next stage. I would like to thank all those who have so far volunteered to do their regions / legs. Very much appreciated.

But let's move on stage by stage....

1st Appointment of Co-ordinators, without these this cannot happen
2nd Legs - Co-ordinators to regulate and co-ordinate
3rd Start and finish location - Consensus to be reached. Any ideas? Could be inland??
4th Date to commence, Co-ordinators to promulgate within their regions..

This is a 48 hour relay - start 6.30pm on a Friday night, Finish 6.30pm (or earlier ) on the Sunday. If a TR6's can do it (all the way round) then surely we can achieve it in legs?

If your fuel allowance allows it maybe the one who starts the relay, can also finish it One thing to bear in mind is that certain stages may be at "unsociable hours" dependent on where we start......

It would be nice to see Fred the Ted as the "baton" in this relay........ Maybe he would like to meet the members ?

Any ideas on this format? I would like to see this through (and would have more time to devote to it after December)

As previously stated I am willing to Co-ordinate the Welsh region, but it would be a help to get a couple more serving SE & North Wales....

You are the members, and only YOU. can make this work

I keep saying I'm going to do this in one car or another, and I might get around to it sooner or later - all the way of course! A group of Allegros even did it for the 30th anniversary in 2003. From memory Club Triumph do a kind of triangle. If you follow the coast as far as is possible it's serious mileage and in a one-driver car probably a good week off work, I'd imagine!

I like your thinking though, Dragrad. Pull something like this off in whatever format and you'll be surprised how much publicity potential there is. You can count me in, I'll be following how this develops.

The only problem with February is you're minimising your hours of daylight...

Thanks for your support...

As for the latter, minor problem, my car has headlamps

As for pulling it off, it does not seem that I will.

It is logistically impossible for one person to co-ordinate all of this. That is why there MUST be regional coordinators, (as per my previous message). Once these are in place, only then can the project progress...

So who's out there ? (5k members there must be someone)??

This sounds like a great idea and I would like to be involved but I wonder if some sort of rally would be a better way forward. i.e. with a group of owners from say from Kent area driving up to a change over at say Cambridge in East Anglia, twhere the next group would then they take over and say drive up to Norwich/Lincoln etc. The same could be done for say the West coast side.

Other users could join in for small sections of the rally where and when they wanted.

That's pretty much the idea.... individual or convoys etc. It's up to the local coordinator to organise.

Some areas have a large number of members in their regions. In my area, there's only little lonely me

I'm happy to be the South West organiser if no-one else wants to... I reckon that's from Bournemouth or maybe Dorchester to the Severn Bridge, via Lands End of course.

Presumably once we have a series of regions then have separate threads for each region to discuss who's doing what?

And are we going clockwise?

This is just a note to say that we on the club team have seen this and will be discussing this shortly to see if and how the club could help - our main concern has to be (and I know this is boring - but we have to do it) safety and responsibility. We will contribute later on on this once we have had talked about it some more

Thank you Christopher. I fully understand. Having been involved (and still) in many events, roads or otherwise those three words Health & Safety & insurance always spring forth.

But I would like a bit of help

Sounds good to me, but see Christopher's post. Will hold fire for a bit but volunteers are welcome to ... er.. volunteer

Counter clockwise, it's a shorter route!!
