The original exhausts were one piece, so would have been cut when replacing the back box. Maybe you just need to take a bit more off the pipe?

Also check that the box hasn't sagged out of position, which can happen if the pipe clamps aren't tight enough, and moves the relative position of the pipe.

What I've done to our '99 CDT the last days:
Fitted Arctic's Hand Brake Compensator
New rear discs and Pads
New rear left wheel bearing
New rear upper arms
New front right lower arm
New front anti-rollig droplinks - both sides

took several evenings....

Indeed it was cut - I replaced the clamp a couple of weeks ago as it was blowing.

It's not really the pipe that's the problem, but the size of the back box - it seems to be uncomfortably wide compared to the car, and it can't really go much further forward without intruding into the wheelarch.

I know from the previous owner that it was a cheap exhaust fitted cheaply, so no surprises really. It's already looking rather rusty in places so I bet it will need replacing in a couple of years anyway.

Not many exhausts can last 12 years, seems only the MGR original ones can.

Replaced the track rod ends on the ZT-T today. Nice and quick job, I put that down to the early soaking of penetrative fluid. And my large battery impact gun.

Spent the rest of the day playing with my new toy... A MX5 NA 1.8 import. Shock and horror. By playing I mean removing rust.

Curious what you replaced it with, and your opinion on the difference in noise/performance.

Smile what I did today

After having my '03 reg 75 for one year and covering 20,000 miles. I moted it today, after fitting discs / pads front and rear and an exhaust from flexy back section a couple of weeks ago. It passed, so quite pleased.

Fitted two front Motobuild springs, with Febi strut bearings.

Much nicer to drive, and feels a lot tighter. Only the rear springs to do now and the R53 handbrake compensator to fit and I'll be MOT ready.
