That was one of the reasons that I kept the 75 and sold the Tomcat when I was forced to make a choice. I don't regret it, but I'd have another Tomcat in a heartbeat if funds, space and spouse permitted.

Hi Derek....I honestly hope you say on as RS, the type of car makes no difference at all.....I really like the Xtype to be honest, but you are quite simply the best man for the job, and a thoroughly decent bloke as well.....

Another change of car for me!
As some of the more astute amongst you may have noticed from my new avatar I have changed my car again.
My period of Jaguar ownership has come to an end somewhat sooner than I had hoped for which I am disappointed. Whilst the X-Type is a decent car the one I bought turned out not to have been such a good purchase. I suffered with some problems with the EGR Valve which was nothing major, however there were simply too many jobs needing done for me to spend the money on. I had been looking to move up to an S-Type and a few members had assisted in my search (many thanks guys). However, in the end it simply did not make sense to run an S-Type as my principal business car, covering some 18 to 20,000 miles a year. With my limited budget I was having to look at 6 year old S-Types that had covered 60-70k miles already. So I started to look at "sensible" options i.e. younger, lower tax and higher mpg. This did not fill me with great excitement so after some discussions with my wife and looking at some of the alternatives I plumped for a diesel convertible. As my wife has a Scenic we already have the practical car so I can run a coupe convertible I found a nice low mileage (26k) diesel in Ultra Blue at a Honda dealer in Grangemouth and went for it. Here it is: Here's hoping it as reliable as my wife's Scenic and her previous Megane. And I also hope we get a decent summer Derek

Hope the weather keeps up for you Derek to enjoy it at its best.
We had considered a VW EOS a while back but decided to stick with the 75. Closest we got to your car was a Ford Mustang Convertible which we hired on holiday in Florida. We drove it all the way down to Miami Beach then on to Key West. It was one of the most memorable drives we've had surpassed last year with a drive most of the way through California & Nevada taking in The Grand Canyon etc Nice pics by the way. JYJ |

Cheers Jim,
Always a gamble buying a convertible in this country Here's hoping for sunshine. Don't think I will be able to rival a drive in either Miami or California though..... Derek

Definitely!!
I was just thinking about what it would have been like last year for the Oban weekender as that was a fabulous weekend..... I will be at the SARR but don't think I will enter my car this year as it really would be out of place As you say, hot summer please Derek

Looks rather nice,a bit of fun for the Summer.
We have a Megane 1.4 Dynamique Sports hatch, purchased new in 2005.It's proved to be a reliable car.We thought of the Diesel, test drove one,but the wife preferred the petrol to drive. |

Thanks Paul,
A bit of an alternative choice as the Jaguar S-type was really going to be too expensive to run in comparison, as well as risky for any unexpected costs. Example: S-Type: £240 Road Tax, Group 41 Insurance and likely 38-40 MPG 6 to 7 years old with likely existing mileage of 60 to 75k Megane CC: £165 Road Tax, Group 19 Insurance, and 45 to 50 MPG One I bought is 4 1/2 Yrs old and covered 26,000 miles. With a 2 yr warranty it is still a £1000 cheaper than most of the S-Types I was looking at. Anyway, something a bit different from the norm. My wife had a 1.4 5 dr hatch for nearly 5 years and loved it, and it was pretty reliable. Her Scenic has been great too so here's hoping for another good Renault experience. Derek

Update - My next car
As I have been keeping this thread up to date each time I changed my car I thought I should add some photos of my new one.
