Obviously it was exactly as per your pictures Now for the installation.

Hans, seeing you have a Mk4 unit - where/how did you connect it?

I would want the R75 clock to sit on top of the Mk4 unit and preferably draw its power and I-bus from there - is this possible. And what connector/cable should I tap into?

Help - plz.

The clock requires three connections to the car.
1. Ground.
2. +12V Ignition.
3. I-bus.

IMPORTANT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I recommend to disconnect the battery when making modifications to the wiring.
Make sure the red light on the navcomputer is extinguised before disconnecting the battery.

With regard to functionality the location of fitting is irrelevant.
Since all cars are wired slightly different it is difficult to provide precise instructions.

I used the loom going to the radio module in the boot.
In most cars the main navigation/audio loom ends in a 17 round pin connector that plugs into the radio module (also called the BMW 17 pin connector).

The wires you need go to:
Pin 15 == Ground
Pin 5 === +12V Ignition
Pin 7 === I-bus

You will have to remove some protective tape from the loom to get to the wires.
Then depending on personal preference either use Scotchlok connectors or soldering to tap into these wires.
Make sure every connection is properly insulated when done.

In case a BM54 is installed, it is probably connected by means of an adapter loom. In that case it may be easier to splice into this loom.

Let me know how you fare and what problems you run into.

Thanks Hans, it arrived today. Will go to my electrical shop tomorrow and get a small plastic box to mount it in.

Default mounting suggestion

Alternatively wrap it in some foam or bubbly with some tape around it and stick it behind the boot lining. It is small and light and won't go anywhere.
That's what I did.
