the centre plate was attached to the spring plate section via rivets so was effectively in one piece with this set, it wasn't something that could be removed thankfully

quick update:
have just got enough of it back together to start and check the gears. It's still on the stand and have no wheels, covers on etc but it seems to be going into gear ok. Even reverse went in without a crunch. Can't really tell on biting point etc yet but hopefully it's working! (touch wood) |

I know it's been a pain but even though the slave has failed it is a relief to know that you've solved the problem. Strange that the slave failed?

The deeper side (or side that sticks out more) is the side that goes towards the clutch cover & the flatter side goes towards the flywheel. Some plates will have "flywheel side" stamped on them. The attached picture shows the clutch cover side of the plate. |

Sorry, I thought you were refering to the cover plate pieces not the clutch plate itself. I think the clutch plate would have been rubbing against the flywheel if fitted the other way around so probably would have been obvious straight away.
