I personally hate talking on the phone myself, but with myself its a fear of phoning new people as I'm alright talking to my mum. I like talking to people in front of me, so web chat is alright. I don't like the disconnection thing when you can't see someone's face.

But I have to have my phone on at all times for business related calls

Hope you find a decent electrician to sort out your issue, as one that will charge to much is a problem down here.
