Airbag safety question

Occasionally, like many others, my airbag warning light comes on - it is caused by a loose connection under the driver's seat.

My question is: does this warning light mean that the airbag will not deploy? In which case, whilst it is an easy fix, it is also dangerous to leave it..? I've always just assumed "it's only a loose wire"...

I'll add it to my long list of repairs then. So easy to not take it seriously! Not any more...

And presumably an MOT failure that if it were any other car would render it uneconomical to repair and have it sent on its way to the scrappy!
