wipers and BCU
Having carried on with getting the garden ready for the winter, I left testing the car until later. All OK, except the keys will no longer communicate. The windows work and the door locks can be opened, but not closed, with the centre console switch. I'll have to tackle that problem next weekend... I'll go through the forum later...

Wipers and BCU
Without the replacement BCU, I would probably have not thought about checking the plug on the motor...

Sounds like you should hang on to the spare BCU for a bit longer. No hurry this end. Tried a main battery reset?

Screams out loud... ;-)
The wipers don't work again. It's dark, but I'm off to have a look... More later :-)

I wonder if that's the problem?
Battery: 12V 50Ah 360 A (EN2) -250 A (IEC) Varta. The previous owner appears to have fitted the wrong battery. It was loose in the compartment, when I got home, after picking up the car from the former owner. The relais are clicking, the washer works, the key no longer communicates and the battery light and warning lights come on when I use the wiper switch... Sitting in the garden, in the dark > If the wipers have been working since February, it must have been a slow process, if the battery is the cause... Battery thread: http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...ad.php?t=22425

Main battery reset? You'll have to jog my memory on that one...
I did follow one reset tip. I disconnected the battery and held the cables together, although I did feel it was odd...

Believe mine is rated at 75 so quite a lot stronger. Have you any chance of putting the battery on an overnight charge?
People talk about a battery reset meaning a disconnected battery from it's terminals for a period of at least 30 mins, not heard the one about holding the two leads together, maybe on a par with rain dances and chanting (bearing in mind things like sat nav and radio codes). Your Vitesse battery could probably do with a recharge and run so think about using that one. Keep well |

On the train again...
I was up at 5am and had another look. Swapped BCUs again... No luck. Good idea with swapping batteries... :-) It does appear to be a lack of power...

Sadly, it won't work with the SD1 battery, as the terminals are the wrong way round and the battery is very much higher. I would probably do some damage, if tried to force a test. The new battery is due tommorow. It has the correct height and ratings.
Note: I'm not reading, or sending Emails much, due to a lack of time, but can add to this thread on the train...

I'm sure you mean that the terminals on the SD1 are correctly placed whereas the ones on the "modern" car are back to front. Remember our SD1s have something these modern cars lack - a low coolant sensor. Good of you to update events, some posters never even reply after receiving advice. Hear others are trying to assist too, so will keep fingers crossed. Regards |
