Unhappy 23 hours later ... drive cam belt goes

Not even 24 hours after picking up the ZT - AND after having the dealer replace the cam belts, fully service and get a complete check on the car, driving home from work on the Westgate freeway - total loss of power and death by cam belt!!! NOOOOOOO!!!

Luckily it wasn't 39 degrees as the day before - but bad enough.

So I'm sitting at home this morning waiting for the dealers tow truck to arrive to take her back and work on her ... and picking up my old Honda from them for now til repaired.

I haven't even had time to enjoy having it!

Depressed and glum Stevieb

Bad luck on having that happen to you within 24 hours of owning it. Let's hope the damage done is minor and repairable and you'll have the car back as soon as possible.

Let's hope this doesn't dampen your ownership experience and good spirits.

Are you sure they replaced the cam belts? i would have asked them to retain the old one's to make sure.

It would be extremely rare for a new belt to go. If this is the case then it should be a warranty claim.

Of course, they may have have made a total pig's ear of doing the set up on the replacement?

Default Update This Morning

Well just got a call - aparently it hasn't actually broken after all - but the water pump seized causing the timing belt to jam and come off???

No damage to the engine and they're replacing the pump and doing a new full written report on the engine as they reassemble after re-fitting the timing belt.

Will have her back Friday afternoon... just im time as I had promised it as a Bridal car on Sunday!!!

There IS a God after all - had almost given up on Friday.

Glad to hear it as 190 valves are very expensive and there's a lot of them.....

Talking

Thanks for asking Reebmit!

Picked the beast up on Friday night and she's had all new valves, spreaders, belts, water pump.... so almost a new engine. (Thank God for warrantees).

Running like silk. Drove her 1000kms this weekend to South Australia where she was the bridal car at my mother in laws wedding and looked the part. Got lots of looks as they're not very common on the road here.

So she'll be back to be checked next week when sh'es run in and all is looking good. Love it!
