Diesel auto front springs
I'm looking at trying to source the correct front springs for the Connie as I am sick of the low ride on the front. A couple of years back one of the struts was leaking so I just swapped the both of them including the manual spec springs with a spare set from my diesel manual tourer and the ride has been low and soft since then.
Speaking to local motor factors, I'm being told they are all the same but I don't believe them. I managed to lift the back seat and there was just enough of the label to identify them as JM. Armed with this info, I checked out Rimmer's for the matching springs. With the cost including delivery I am looking at £152 for the pair. As money is a bit tight due to being medically dismissed from my job a couple of months ago, I'm trying to save a couple of quid as I need discs and pads, front back plates and top mounts, before then starting other jobs on the tourer as well. Has anyone has a similar issue and manage to raise the front of a diesel auto and improve the ride . Last edited by patrolman pete; 8th May 2024 at 19:21.. Reason: More info |

16 inch unions the the same as my tourer which has a beautiful ride, however when I bought the car it was fitted with 18 inch hairpins and I think the horrible ride with those wrecked the shockers hence the change to the unions . That doesn't explain the front of the car sitting low compared to my other 75 and the springs aren't broken either.

Thanks for that, I had just about given up hoping for someone to give out some advice lol ! It’s interesting to see the difference in free length and coil thickness. It looks like I’m going to have to go with Rimmers to get the correct springs to stop the front end hitting the road when me and the wife are out in the car.

So last week I bit the bullet and ordered two JM front springs from Rimmer Bros for £152 as they were listed as in stock. Confirmation of my order was emailed back and I noticed the parts were service line parts (SLPP) after the number and were a little bit dearer than what was listed. I didn't order the SLP parts. Oh well at least they are ordered until I noticed they were on back order but due in on the 17 th May .
I've sat for a few days wondering what's going on as I want to start the job next week so I've rang them. I spoke to a lovely helpful lady in customer services who on checking the order number , confirmed they would arrive for dispatch tomorrow . She said the parts I ordered were showing there was only one spring in stock and as I needed two, they system had ordered an alternative but said if I hold the line, she would check with the supplier. She duly did so but they told her she would have to ring the factory that make them ! She took my number and said she would ring me back with an update once she had managed to speak with them. Well I've received an Email to say the order has been cancelled as the parts are no longer available and I wont be charged for the order ! Has anyone on here fitted any decent diesel auto springs that they can recommend as I'm beginning to think that people are starting to lose interest in these cars and just not the suppliers ! PS I've ran Rover 75's for nearly 24 years ! |

Thanks again Stephen. I was just a bit hacked off as Rimmers are listing parts as available or in stock when they are not ! If I hadn’t rang I wonder how long I would have been waiting before anyone let me know!
