Good for Steve to spot this. Disgustingly arrogant to try to sell damaged goods that will get you a fail at the MOT. Very surprised at them with this.

Have you ever had a dual mass flywheel stop working ??

ie. Springs broken.

I still get this take-up on the drive as I let up the clutch.
Identical to that of a worn out lower mount.

To check the lower mount for movement when I re-installed it I put the car in 2nd gear with the brakes off and rocked it as hard as I could backwards and forwards. There was no rocking movement of the engine at all. Also no movement in the lower mount.--

Can't figure out what is moving except for play in the flywheel. Any help gratefully received.

Amazing fact but-----I have only asked for help less than a handful of time in my ten years on the forum.---
Could it be a drive shaft that has worn out.?

I wouldn't think so because with the amount of movement I'm getting I would think that by now all the ball bearings would have fallen out and be clattering around.----

Actually as the joint in a drive shaft starts to wear out you get a clicking noise as you go around corners when the ball bearings jump over a worn groove in their tracks.---

I would bet you your issue is the long shaft, (if you have already been down all the usual avenues) either centre cup, or CV, people end up damaging it when doing clutches, and they dont last forever either. Ive had three diesel ZTs that exhibited a big clonk which was incorrectly diagnosed by every garage around, until I inspected myself and found it was the long shaft. VERY hard to detect as normally you need the engine torque to provide enough force to make it clunk.

Post is nowt to do with lower engine mounts? I will get back to what I found yesterday later as I intend to remove the Chinese mount from my car to test, I have the V6 Chinese mount not the 1.8

My clonking turned out to be the lower front suspension arm rubber bush. Now replaced and all is perfect once more.--

Default Alarming Find

Ok so I said I would report back on what I found when I tested the Chinese 1.8 mount which was sent to me as a 2.0 mount.

Below you will find small videos of how the mount is compromised in the small bush of the mount, ie being very sloppy.

This also then pushed me to test the original T mount, the jag/Mondeo mount and the power flex mounts in the same way and looking at both the large bush and small bush how they reacted on the vice jig combined with the bracket fitted to out Rover 75 engines.

The first test I did was with the original T mount, to test the small bush
https://youtu.be/3K6--tkvsD4

Then I tried the Chinese 1.8 mount
https://youtu.be/AYo0PMZr2jk

The next test was the Jag/Mondeo mount.
https://youtu.be/WIDU1ZqL4d8

I also tried another Jag/Mondeo mount I had to make sure the small bush had not failed on the first Mondeo mount test.
https://youtu.be/gV-vIaBscBQ

As you can from this simple test the small bushes are not up to the job on the Chinese 1.8 mount & that the Jag ?Mondeo mount seems to have been compromised after the modification need to make it fit to the Rover 75.

Now make what you will of these videos but in my opinion the Chinese mount is not fit for purpose certainly not on a diesel engine, I will test the Chinese 2.0 mount in the videos I have yet to upload.

Regarding the Jag/Mondeo mount it as at least been compromised in the small bush area it might well be ok for the 1.8 engine even the 2.0 engine but again not on a diesel engine.

The next batch of videos will show how the large mount reacts as well, there are a few videos so please view them all and make your own mind up.

I conclude with what you say above regarding the Jag/Mondeo on a 1.8 even the 20. 2.5 engine but as far as the diesel I would not want to fit one to my car, also the diesel bracket is different on the diesel as opposed to the 1.8 & the other petrol engines.

This as been talked about in the thread already along with photos I took, and you posted then showing how the 1.8 as a different fixing bracket.

I would still be concerned that the small rubber bush must have lost some of its stability through the cutting modification so it fits our cars.

I then decided to go over all the tests again just to be sure.

T mount re-fitted

Re-fit Chinese mount.

The above shows the comparison to the original mount. I did other test with a bar through the large mount, which I will post here below.

These videos show all the mounts with a bar through the large mount.

Jag/Mondeo mount.
https://youtu.be/QtW72y6xMcM

This time I decided to try a power flex mount albeit a petrol mount, just to see how that faired with the same test.
https://youtu.be/p__fBfF5emU

I also tested the T mount which had already had a little damage I filled the gaps with silicon as a trial to see how it will fair on the car.
https://youtu.be/gMV4aMl7ehU

I carried out other tests but this time I clamped the large mount into the vice, this was to simulate it being fixed to the subframe of the car, those videos I will post later.

Members please view these videos and make of them what you will all your opinions count so please post them Arctic.

For my V6 ZT I am very happy with the yellow powerflex bushings.
I have had then installed for several thousand km with no issues.
The large bushing was an absolute pig to fit however.
