Predicting Coronavirus
I saw a post today on fb about a prediction from a 2008 book written by a self-proclaimed psychic, it claims that in around 2020 a severe pneumonia like illness will spread throughout the globe attacking the lungs.
A quick google search has also revealed another book written in 1981, it references a fictional biological weapon called Wuhan-400 that was designed to kill people in 2020. Both books have the year correct (2020), one book has the location correct (Wuhan), and both books predict similarities as to the coronavirus. https://fullfact.org/online/book-did...t-coronavirus/ Am I getting sucked into fake news? |

Yes Wes, you are. Both books are fiction. Wuhan has long been a base of scientific endeavour and controversy. It's location is in a place where people seldom go and is at best remote. Has been the source of many a rumour. Similarly but for different reasons as infamous as Area 51(?) in USA.

Interesting talk by Bill Gates back in 2015 about the world not being ready for the next epidemic:
https://www.ted.com/talks/bill_gates...ge=en#t-197425 and what he says now about coronavirus 5 years later: https://www.ted.com/talks/bill_gates...virus_pandemic

There are books "predicting" stuff being churned out every day eventually one (or in this case a combination of two) will get something right - especially with flu epidemics as they actually pop up relatively often.
Now, if they could predict lottery numbers I'd be interested :¬)

Predictions or fiction, doesn't really matter. We're all in a mess now, it's what we do after this has gone away that really matters now

Our government like a lot of others are borrowing huge amounts of money to keep things going and this will need paying back. My guess is our grandchildren will be feeling the financial effect of this. |

Here is a peer-reviewed article from an authoritative scientific journal in 2007 (not fake news), after the SARS outbreak, stating that the reservoir of coronavirus in bats and the habit of eating exotic animals in China was a 'time-bomb' - it was only a matter of time before a new coronavirus infection would cross the species barrier to humans.

Never really go for this kind of thing. Its a coincidence. Lets face it the Jehovah's Witnesses have predicted the end of the world on many occasions with a spectacular success rate of zero

There will be a paper about situations such as this somewhere, with their relevance attached to or manipulated to an outbreak. There are elements of truth/fact in a lot of scientific predictions, it simply depends on their sources. A novel with plagiarised material from another novel written by an ostracised member of a cult is not a reliable source.
