Default Any experience with a AK90 Coder and Rover?

Hi All,

I'm maintaining a few Rovers and MGs for the family, and we've decided a few spare keys would be in order, if we could make it affordable.

I don't like the idea of gluing the immobilizer chip near the sensor ring, as I've seen suggested, for various reasons.

So, whilst exploring part numbers, etc, I've come across the AK90 Coder for the BMWs of the same age. you have to remove the EWS, then remove the pcb. The coder has a socket which plugs onto the main chip / eeprom which allows the device to read and program it in circuit.

You then do the same with the keys.

We've already done the fob circuit boards.

The item is here:

And this is one of the video i found for the BMW world.

So, has anyone tried this? Failed / worked / otherwise?

If no one has, I'd be happy to try, but I'd prefer not to waste money if possible.

Any advice welcome. Note, this won't affect the other key I'm likely to get done in MK, so no business lost based on this!.

Cheers,

Paul.

It's more likely to end in tears than you think.........I tried one of these eight years ago, it's clunky, and unreliable, the transponder fixed code is rarely written correctly to the transponder.

And the binary read from the EWS, especially with hardware 2 and software 5 with a maskset S47J processor will be corrupt.

Hope this clarifies thing a little for you

Brian

P.S. by the way you cannot leave the transponder attached next to the inductive coil, as it is impossible to lock the car
