Replacement "genuine" fans
Just found another reason to dislike the new “spindle” cooling fans (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROVER-75-...0AAOSwfVpYpx0I), other than there’s no locking mechanism for the blades and mine went in helicopter mode. At a recent local meet I diagnosed a member’s low speed fan as faulty, it was a 2 speed with silver resistor. He visited today and we managed to change the resistor for a gold one, awkward to say the least, normally I would have removed the blades but with the press fit spindle this wasn’t an option. Hang on to the originals for as long as you can.

Air con fan
Still having problems with my 1 year old 2 speed fan.Worked ok to start with, now making an horrendous noise when on, louder than the engine. I purchased it from Julian at JMA cars. I have tried calling but his phone is full, tried e mailing but it is returned as not known.Anyone know what happen to him ?
Anyhow taking it to yet another 'specialist' tomorrow but don't hold out much hope of an answer. 2 local garages have just shrugged their shoulders.:duh |

Is that Jules in Wales? If so he’s been on holiday recently, got a good reputation on here so unlikely to be intentional. Give him another try.
Or why not call Exeter Road Garage up in Newton Abbot, they have a selection of used spares and should be able to help. Regards |

You have a diesel don't you and the fan operation is linked with the air conditioning. Have you seen the question I asked at the end of your other thread? Is the fan you bought from JMA Cars an MG Rover system or his aftermarket alternative? If the former, does it have a silver or a gold resistor? If you can help with this information we can probably assist without you spending a lot of money. Simon

Hi Jon. Now Jules is back from his holiday I am sure you will be able to contact him by phone or email/PM personally I would not let another garage touch the fan until you have an answer from Jules, I doubt he would want to work on it if another garage person as messed with the fan if it is one he supplied, ring him asap I am sure he will rectify this for you. If it is not a fan he supplied I am sure he will still be able to help you with your quest.

Air con fan
Hello all who replied.
Jules recommended a 2 speed fan aftermarket fan as its more reliable than the Rover 3 speed. A local air con specialist said the fan blades are fine but the bearings? are dry and causing the noise.I perhaps should have got Jules to supply and fit but North Wales is a bit of distance so was not really tenable. The cost of the fan is small compared with cost labour including removal of the front bumper again. Simon excuse my ignorance but where would I find the resistor ? whats it look like please? I will try to contact Jules again. Many thanks, Jon |

Hi Jon and thanks for coming back to me on this.
First of all, Jules' aftermarket fan doesn't use a resistor so you can forget about that possibility. Quote:
