Jatco??
Some of you may recall that my 75 CDT has a broken autobox, that was diagnosed as a faulty reverse piston.
The costs of repair at £1500 and up are prohibitive. However, I can get hold of a Jatco box from an '04 75 1.8. The ratios seem to be the same according to the technical manual; just the diff is different (sorry!). So, can I get it to fit, and how do I swap the diff? |

Surely replacing the whole gearbox and then diff must be more work and cost than replacing the piston etc. In-situ ?

don't think the 1.8 will be the same block as the diesel

That's a bit confusing !
The heading appears to be for the Autobox but the main listing is for the engine (as in pic) !! Also, as said above, wht not just replace the Reverse Piston in situ ? |

I did think there were some threads on replacing this item with the box insitu. And certainly not for £1500!!!

Problem is that the car is in the open and I'm too old and stiff to get under it.
Anything would have to be a garage job. A local garage has quoted £400 labour to swap the box (with fresh fluid). Last edited by berkshirelad; 2nd October 2012 at 17:58.. |

there must be a R75 / ZT nut in your area who could help or suggest a good trusty garage. Are you saying your garage would replace the piston and do a fluid change for £400? Or just the fluid change (which is way OTT!)

reread! Doh! Sorry I see to swap the 04 box and put new fluid in!
I still think if there is a local person to you from the club they might help out with an insitu fix? |
