power steering belt fiiting problems

Today i fitted a new power steering pump to my 02 diesel tourer. All went swimmingly until i came to refit the belt. Took the off side wheel off and the plastic wing internal piece so i could see the jockey/tensioner but could not see how you actually loosen it so as to have enough slack to fit belt. Help please!!!!!!!

Is this the serpentine belt? You need a long thin spanner to go up between the chassis and fit to the tensioner just above and forward of the crank pulley.
Sometimes the bolt turns in the tensioner and you will need a second long thin spanner to get to the engine side of the tensioner.

Hi Mark.
It's spring loaded, how did you get the belt off in the first place?

You need to get the ring spanner on it an aviation spanner is best slightly ground down to fit into the gap, some use a wooden wedge to stop it coming off the pulley.

Route the belt correctly and make sure it goes over the crank pulley last, sometime you need to turn the pulley which then pulls the belt on.

Pull the spanner anti-clockwise to aid with the tension.

I remember changing mine, I was trying to get it on for ages to no avail. I left it until the next day, and decided I was taking no prisoners! I used the spanner as much as possible, then hooked it over the crank pulley and turned it with a spanner, it was on in less than 5 minutes.

I did tell it I wasn't messing about lol
