Self driving cars by 2025.
Oh! er Missus
The Government has unveiled plans for new legislation to roll out self-driving vehicles on UK roads by 2025. It has allocated £100 million to deliver its autonomous ambitions, with £34m confirmed today (Friday, August 19) for research to support safety developments and inform more detailed legislation. https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/lat...hicles-by-2025

The obvious transport system for automation is the railways, all the bits and pieces are there as is the techie stuff. The car bit is a red herring, its not green or even or "a paler shade" and will be a minefield of damage/injury actions. Chris.S.

Exactly, It makes you wonder who would buy an expensive self driving car that would have zero input from the "driver" have no foot pedals or steering wheel You might as well take a taxi or public transport, In fact GMTE buses start their £2 adult & £1 children fares on the 1st September to travel anywhere across all nine boroughs of greater Manchester which covers a huge area no matter how many changes of buses you use for your journey . It wont be worth getting the car out of the garage at those prices if you need to go into town.

Further reading the Fleet News referred to shows a dismal prospect for any hope of EV prices being reduced any time soon due to battery material price increases

Yes they need to get battery materials down in price asap, I don't know why they're still so expensive & haven't come down in price! The most manufactured BEV batteries these days are the LFP (lithium ion phosphate) They contain no Cobalt, No Manganese, No nickel or aluminium. They have almost the same energy density of ternary batteries & can take many more charges & discharges than ternary packs. They need to get their skates on as the government have just announced new plans under the environment act to give all local authorities new powers to strengthen air quality measures in conjunction with National Highways to contain emissions, It seems to be an ever decreasing circle for combustion vehicles as to where they'll be allowed to drive in the not too distant future. https://www.localgov.co.uk/New-frame...nnounced/54705

Our local council will relish enforcing new limitations on ICE vehicles. Sounds pretty ominous.
