Third Party Warranties
Hello
I'm close to becoming one of the club and taking the plunge on a 2005 ZT 1.8T. It's a private car though so to allay the worry of the HGF I am considering a third party warranty. http://www.warrantywise.co.uk/ offer a 12 month one for £220 for example, which aint too bad and is underwritten by Lloyds. What do you reckon? Has anyone else gone the third party route? |

Personally I think 3rd party warranties are a waste of money, but it's horses for courses. Only you can decide whats best.
Having said that, have you looked at their T&C's? You're specifically worried about HGF: Page 3 - 1st bullet point. Page 25 Para G & I If I was taking a warranty out with WW I'd be concerned about those I mentioned above. You should phone them & ask them whats covered if you should suffer HGF. Reason I'm cautious about these warranties, I read a couple of years ago about someone who suffered HGF, and they had a devil of a job getting the warranty company to pay for things.

Waste of Money
I bought my V8 ZT in 2005 it was 8 months old and the salesman at MG Rover Direct suggested I bought an RAC Warranty. Paid about £30 a month When my Fan failed nearly two years later and I told them I could get it fixed using ine of Julians resistor kits they told me that they only paid £36 per hour labour. The local ex rover garage charged £55 so I was out of pocket. they would not answer when I asked where a garage was that specialised in MG Rover and charged £36 Per hour. My recommendation get it inspected before you buy and factor a Head Gasket replacement in to your purchase costs. If you are in the Midlands Contact Nick Bonthrone at Austin Garages www.austingarages.com he will do a pre purchase inspection Best of Luck |

Yeah I wasn't sure about the T&Cs, I think one would have to get the wear & tear option to avoid them wriggling out of everything, which makes the prices more like £275.
Well, I'm looking at a trade car tomorrow now, so that would have the 3 month warranty on it for a start. Btw, that link was http://www.austingarages.co.uk Thanks |

Excellent service I had from my warranty company (WarrantyWorks).
Three fuel pumps, a headlamp unit, a fan and an ABS unit spread over both of my 75s. No messing, no delays. Repairs authorised direct with my repairer on the phone, on the spot. No excess to pay and no requirement to use expensive mainstream dealerships. Providing the garage is bona fide and has a VAT registration number they are happy. The rate my mechanic charges, the limit of £1000 per claim is sufficient for almost anything. One thing they ARE hot on is regular servicing. The slightest problem and they quite candidly told me they'd refuse a claim....but that shouldn't be a problem for member of this forum I paid £300 for two years cover this last renewal and was happy to do so. |

I assume, Raistlin, they are looking for an approved (VAT registered) service stamp in the book and not proof you've serviced your own car ?
I fully service mine every six months, no matter what mileage i've done, but i'm not a "QUALIFIED" mechanic whoops sorry 'Fitter' PS I could get a stamp but that would not be cricket. |

Well, I've done it.. put the deposit down on the car. The AA have just got to check it out and then I can collect form Wednesday. It's a lovely copperleaf red one with 49k on the clock. The trader only gives a 1 month / 4000 mile guarantee on it though but then the place is about 100 miles from me so it'd have to be fairly major for me to bother taking it back there to fix.
Will have a think about whether to gamble or go for a 3rd party warranty or not. Regards |
