Battle of Britain Day -15th September

When I was younger the opportunities to commemorate the Battle of Britain were widespread. Towns had events and every RAF station had something if not an airshow. With the massive reduction in official locations and increases in costs, for years the only air displays were annual Biggin Hill commercial events, now there may be a commercial airshow loosely linked to the event.

When at Bournemouth for the Air Festival, now the weekend before last, the Royal air Force flew it's Typhoon II with the amazing new livery. My friends and I spotted it on the Monday when it went off for the photo shoot related to in the linked news item.

We can still experience the freedoms that the pilots of the Battle of Britain fought for, alongside many others, but whose defence of our homeland led to the relative peace and comfort we have lived in.

On this Battle of Britain day also remember the RAF Benevolent Fund which supports present and past members of the RAF and their families in their time of need.

Sadly now historic events like this are hardly mentioned in the media, if it were me, I would have a full days viewing scheduled on the TV instead of all the tosh that is broadcast to the masses.

The young ones need to remember what the older generations went through.

You can visit the bunker where the Battle of Britain was controlled from at what was RAF Uxbridge to have a tour. Now a housing estate.
Worth doing, getting on for 40 years ago I worked in the bunker but did not appreciate what I was working in. When we visited last year pre lockdown they still had parts of the bunker to open to the public.

Luckily I have been to the 11 Group Operations Room at the former R.A.F. Uxbridge a couple of times. "Frozen" at the 15th September when the Battle reached it's most intense day.Everything up, no reserves.

Thats true trikey - they are not "woke"these events and dates and the various "wokers" deny the respect to others they claim for their interpretation of history. Chris S.
