I'm back, but what have I got?
Hello All
After nearly 5 years without a 75 I have just bought myself another one! It's a 55 plate Classic, built in the last 10 days of production, but seems to have a number of un-Classic like fittings such as leather seats, rear cup holders, trafficmaster. alloy wheels, all as original fit. Is this a known phenomenon - ie were these some kind of special edition does anyone know? Dave |

Possible SVP (Special Value Product) car
Hi Dave, welcome back
Is your car a Starlight Silver, Platinum Gold or Tempest Grey 1.8T or CDTi saloon? If so, you’ve got an SVP car See the email below sent to dealers (sorry about the pictures, will fix them when I can)...... 25 March 2005 All Dealers (SA/05/022) FAO: Dealer Principal, Sales Manager, All Sales Executives Priority: Red The Spring Campaign - Special Value Products (SVPs) Dear Principal, Our team of Area Business Managers have been speaking with you, our Dealer partners, over the last few weeks about the exciting Spring Campaign Special Value Products. The strategy is simple. During the April – June period we aim to promote these “Special Offers,” which provide outstanding customer value through enhanced specifications and aggressive price points. On the Rover derivatives, we will be promoting a “Rover Upgrade” programme. On MG, we will be promoting the mainstream derivatives as “Le Mans” special offers. In addition, we are now taking the opportunity to widen this approach by introducing an entry-level derivative, based on an MG ZR 3 door, to allow an even more aggressive start point to the range. The new SVP, priced at £8,495 will allow you to market the MG product in a very competitive way. Since these SVPs form the backbone of our second quarter campaign, we have ensured that all Dealers have a representative “batch” of cars. In the case that certain Dealers did not take up the offer from their ABM, then we have taken the decision to order these vehicles on the Dealers’ behalf. The attachment shows the line up of these new derivatives and their respective retail and wholesale pricing along with Dealer margin. Please ensure that all of your staff are fully aware of these new actions which will ensure that we are placed competitively in today’s market. Finally, please pencil in your diaries Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th April for a series of ABM forums to go through the full suite of marketing activities for the Q2 2005 campaign. Further details will be supplied in due course. Yours faithfully, Robert Hazelwood Managing Director, UK Sales & Marketing 1: Spring Special Value Products: Rover Upgrade Programme Donor Vehicle: Rover 75 Classic 1.8T (£18,497 @ July 04) Additional Specification: Leather interior, Smart Nav, 16” Multispoke alloys, paint Original Retail Price: £20,685 SVP Retail Price: £16,395 Retail Dealer Margin: £4,290 Donor Vehicle: Rover 75 Classic 2.0 CDTi (131) (£18,422 @ July 04) Additional Specification: Leather interior, Smart Nav, 16” multi spokes, paint Original Retail Price: £20,800 SVP Retail Price: £16,495 Retail Dealer Margin: £4,305 2: Spring Special Value Products: LeMans Special Offers Donor Vehicle: ZT 160 (entry) 1.8T (£19,197 @ Feb 04) Additional Specification: Part Leather, 11 spoke 18” alloys, Smart Nav, space saver, paint Original Retail Price: £21,595 SVP Retail Price: £17,865 Retail Dealer Margin: £3,730 Donor Vehicle: ZT-T 160 (entry) 1.8T (£20,197 @ Feb 04) Additional Specification: Part Leather, 11 spoke 18” alloys, Smart Nav, space saver, paint Original Retail Price: £22,595 SVP Retail Price: £18,865 Retail Dealer Margin: £3,730 Donor Vehicle: ZT 2.0 CDTi 135 (£19,222 @ Feb 04) Additional Specification: Part Leather, 11 spoke 18” alloys, Smart Nav, space saver, paint Original Retail Price: £21,575 SVP Retail Price: £17,865 Retail Dealer Margin: £3,710 Donor Vehicle: ZT-T 2.0 CDTi 135 (£20,222 @ Feb 04) Additional Specification: Part Leather, 11 spoke 18” alloys, Smart Nav, space saver, paint Original Retail Price: £22,595 SVP Retail Price: £18,865 Retail Dealer Margin: £3,730 The Rover 75 SVP came in one of three colours: Platinum Gold (MCN), Starlight Silver (MBB), and Tempest Grey (LEF), all had the same colour interior of Black leather with smokestone piping (PPJ). Hi Reebs, Banana and everyone - thank you for the welcome back and yes it is a great club.
My car is in fact a Platinum Gold colour and the description you provide Reebs is exactly what I have. So it must be one of the SVP cars. Thank you for all the info - it makes sense now. I had been wondering if I had bought a home-modified vehicle would all the conversations with insurers that would entail. First job was to investigate the pollen filter chamber and sure enough it was blocked solid. Once flowing free I was amazed at the amount of water that was held in there. Hopefully couple of pictures will appear below that show the water (in case anyone hasn't seen this for themselves) and the comparison of old and new pollen filters best regards Dave |

Just a word of caution Dave on the pollen filters. Your old one may well have been a charcoal impregnated pollen/odour filter and they are a natural grey/black colour when new. It's a mistake to believe that the colour reflects the amount of dirt absorbed.
