Brought it!
Well, a couple of days ago but just got back to the forum after a 7 year hiatus without an MG. There have been good times (S60 D5) and bad times (Vectra Estate) but now I have an XPower grey Zt 190+ on the drive and we're just getting to know one another! Just need to update my profile a bit now...!

Today I changed a manifold egr, map sensor on a members car, second in a week below shows the reason why you need to have these manifolds changed for a clean one.
Today. 1 2 Note the difference in the MAP sensor air reading hole, form a clogged up one to a clear one. 3 Manifold from mid week. 4 5 The tow side by side note how one is more carbonised than the other, which is a sticky wet EGR. 6 They should look like this below 6/7 6 7 I know what I will be doing some time next week

I had an idea that water was getting in the boot of the silver one, so today I had a nose round the area where I thought it was coming from......the rear boot hinge area. I cleaned all the grunge away from the hinge area where it meets the the side of the body/wing. I then sprayed WD 40 down the sealing point of the wing/body where the hinge for the boot fits. After a short while, the WD40 had found its way through to the inside of the boot. I then got some Waxoyle on the end of a screwdriver and tapped it down into the gap at the back of the hinge where it meets the wing side. Will wait to see if it works tomorrow because we are supposed to be having rain........again.

Went to a meet and had a new windscreen fitted, thought I’d treat goldie as 250k on the clock she needed a freshen up!

Experienced the latest weirdness in the poor running saga.
Lately the revs haven't been quite dropping away like they should when coasting (sitting around 1200rpm rather than 900-1000rpm like they should). Also had the issue of a 'hitch' at around 1500rpm when blipping the throttle, and sometimes any slight blip of the throttle resulting it going up to 2000rpm before coming back down. So off I goes searching for a manifold leak - nothing found. Disconnected the TPS to see if that helped (I've done multiple position resets over the last week with no effect), and again no difference. This is where it gets really weird though, I pulled one of the breathers off to see how it coped with a big vacuum leak and instead of the idle increasing to 2000rpm like I expected, it chopped abruptly between 2500rpm and 2000rpm for around 20 seconds before sitting at 4000rpm. Looking back, I've experienced the 'chopping' before when holding the idle up when cold to stop it from stalling, but it was fully warm this time. No idea where to even start, getting sick of chasing my tail trying to get this to run right! |

I'd pretty much reached the same conclusion that a loom fault was very likely, so now I just need to find one for a 1.8 auto...

Finally got round to cleaning up the rusty rear arches, using some Deox rust remover, Luckily, seemed to be clean metal underneath so cleaned, primed and painted in an afternoon, as a temporary measure until a better job can be done later when its warmer. At least its better now than driving around with rusty ugly arches!!

My ZT has been taunting me.
For the past few weeks I have been getting a bulb failure warning. Not for the burned out fog light which has been reliably burned out for a month, but every week or so the warning would come on the dash telling me that the sidelight was burned out...Then a day or so later the bulb would come back on and the warning would go away. Last week the warning was on all week. No messing around, I decided to change both the fog light bulb and the sidelight bulb on Sunday. Sure enough, on Saturday the bulb came back on and the warning went off. I changed the fog light bulb and joked to my wife that the warning would come back on Monday morning when I went to drive the car to work. Sure enough it did. I went down to the garage and changed the rotten thing in 10 minutes before dinner. Luckily I have a flex hose on the intake replacing the rotten old Shannon tube so I was able to move the filter box aside just enough to get my hand in to get at the bulb. Job done. I wonder if it the warning light will be on tomorrow morning.-Evil car. I sure love it!

Yesterday I took a trip to Wokingham to see if I could fix a zt that had conked out after it went through a large puddle, aa were called out to it and guess what, they didn't fix it.
Checked over the footwell fuses then the engine bay ones and behold, a blown 15 amp fuse, replaced it and it fired up, the look of pure joy on the ladies face made my day as she's been without this car for a week. Today I took the total waste of money xtrons unit out to try and find out why it suddenly can't find a gps signal, I couldn't find anything untoward so another piece of Chinese junk destined for the bin. |
